From December 1st 2019, shipments of all boxes will feature latches with integrated Transport Security Administration (TSA) recognised locks – this in response to customer requests for enhanced security.
The new latches operate in much the same way as the units we have been using for last four years, just with the addition of a TSA recognised key-operated lock which, when engaged, prevents the handle of the latch being opened and turned. One of the two latches on either side of each box will feature this device.
Security personnel at airports hold master keys to these locks and so are able to conduct physical inspections – this means they can open and re-lock your case without the worry of them cutting off padlocks or cable locks.
Sorry to say these are not retrofittable due to different dimensions of the backing plate.
And oh, this is a free upgrade – it will be a standard feature from December.
